The Abilities Ranch Way is more than a set of program guidelines. It is the culture that guides how we work with participants, families, volunteers, horses, and one another.
Look for what someone can do before assuming what they cannot. A diagnosis can help us understand someone's challenges. It does not tell us their potential. We begin with the person and look for what they can do.
Growth requires opportunities to do something difficult. We create safe and appropriate challenges, allow room for mistakes, make small corrections, and give participants the opportunity to try again.
Success is measured by progress, not comparison. A small accomplishment to one person may represent an enormous step for another. We notice those moments. We point them out. And we celebrate them.
People grow when they know they are wanted. Everyone who comes to Abilities Ranch should feel respected, valued, included, and part of the community. We believe that when people feel they belong, they are empowered to discover their strengths and reach their full potential.
It is not our place to decide someone else's limits. Life will provide enough limitations on its own. Our responsibility is to build people up, strengthen them, create opportunities, and allow them to discover what they are capable of.
Abilities Ranch isn't divided into people who help and people who are helped. Everyone has something to contribute. Our participants give friendship, trust, laughter, joy, perseverance, and perspective to the people around them.

Our horses are extraordinary partners in what we do.
They create opportunities for communication, movement, responsibility, trust, patience, confidence, and connection.
But Abilities Ranch isn't simply about teaching people to ride horses.
